Bulleit 95 Rye (more commonly known simply as Bulleit Rye) is an award-winning straight American rye whiskey with a distinctive mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. It is highly regarded for its spicy and complex character, making it a favorite for sipping or mixing in cocktails like a Manhattan or Sazerac.
Bulleit 95 Rye is often credited with mainstreaming high-rye whiskey during the cocktail renaissance of the 2010s. Before its 2011 launch, rye was a niche category dominated by "barely legal" mash bills (51% rye). Bulleit popularized the ultra-spicy MGP-sourced 95% rye mash bill, which changed the expectations for the entire category. The 95 Rye would secure Double Gold Medals (at the San Fransico World Spirits Competition) in both 2011 and 2013.
Because of its high rye content, the whiskey doesn’t get lost in sugar or vermouth. It became the go-to for professionals at the International Bartenders Association level for crafting bold Manhattans and Old Fashioneds.
Despite absolutely defining the whiskey label color of green for rye whiskies across the globe, the profile shifted the American palate away from the sweeter, corn-heavy "Kentucky style" rye toward the drier, dill-and-baking-spice profile of Indiana-style rye. Its’ massive commercial success proved there was a market for 95% rye, paving the way for other brands like High West and WhistlePig to find mainstream audiences.
Bulleit 95 Rye Whiskey is a global leader in the rye category, currently holding the title of America's #1 selling rye whiskey. Under the ownership of Diageo, it maintains a presence in approximately 180 countries and has seen double-digit growth in recent years.
